A look at prince Svyatoslav's family, XI centuary

In the book of N. Kaminskaya "The history of a costume (suit)" I have red about the Russian costumes of X-XIV centuries. In the book I have found this drawing. It is from the handwritten book "Izbornik of Svyatoslav" which had been written at 1073 for Svyatoslav, a prince of Kiev. At the drawing there is prince Svyatoslav and his family.

The prince is wearing green caftan (also named svita), blue cloak corzno, round hat with the fur and green boots made from morocco (a kind of leather).

Blouse from the pavlovskiy headkerchief, 1988

I have a russian magazine (album of models) "The knitting", which was published in 1988 by G. Ilina. In this magazine I have found this original blouse. It is made from the fabric of the pavlovskiy headkerchief and decorated by knitting strip (lace).

Russian women don't really wear such blouses.

Costume in russian style from Paul Poiret

Paul Poiret is a famous French fashion designer of the beginning of the XX century. He is noted for many innovations in costumes. So, he had designed models of clothes by the colourful sketches of Russian painter Leon Baxt for the Russian ballets of  Dyagilev's troupe (Russian Seasons in Paris).

In 1911-1912 Paul Poiret was travelled Russia. Under the influence of this trip he has made an original costume. You can see it on the draw. It is a dress from brown Holland named "Kazan" and a winter fur coat in style of Russian fur coat.

(Kazan is a city in Russian Federation, a capital of Tatarstan.)
